CARIAD is an automotive software and technology company with a strong mission to build a unified software platform across all brands of the Volkswagen Group. Brands that fall under this umbrella group include but are not limited to Audi, Porsche, Lamborghini, and Bentley. CARIAD is a Volkswagen Group company, tasked with developing the most innovative and integrated software in automotive industry and ensuring innovation remains a priority focus. ‘
Previously established in 2020, CARIAD currently employs 5000 engineers and developers around the world. As of this year (2022) CARIAD Estonia AS is building up step by step its tech team in Tallinn that will be an integral part of the global Digital Business and Mobility Services team of CARIAD. As the company moves to expand the Tallinn tech hub, we are now looking to add talent to the quickly growing team and are on the look out for talented, digital minds to help us create code that moves the world.
Who is CARIAD
CARIAD currently has a home base in Germany, where 5000 employees from 80+ nations are building outstanding digital experiences and products for all Volkswagen Group brands that will transform mobility. Tallinn is one of the international CARIAD locations at the heart of a unique digital society and international tech community. CARIAD has a vision to create majority of the code inhouse by mid-decade. Through a series of strategic co-operations, including a partnership with Microsoft, the company is on track for successful scaling and expansion.
Software of the Future
CARIAD has a simple goal; an aim to create a new automotive experience and increase the innovation speed of Volkswagen Group to make the car a sustainable, safe and seamlessly-connected mobility companion in a digital world.
Software compiles data to ensure that cars are taking the most efficient and safest route, and that consumers have the most streamlined and comfortable driving experience. In order for data to be used effectively, there is a call for a unified software program that can seamlessly integrate data and provide a world class experience. This is the goal.
Imagine a car that parks itself, acts as your personal chauffeur, anticipates your wishes and prioritizes safety for you and your loved ones. This is what CARIAD hopes to achieve through a one-platform software solution.
At the moment, various software programs are making leaps and bounds to deliver cleaner and more efficient digital automotive experiences. Yet, there lies a fundamental problem. Without a unifying software platform, each brand will miss out on the benefits of collaborative efforts and, in doing so, create future obstacles in cross-platform accessibility. In order to maximize progress through data analysis, and stand true to the tenants of safety and efficiency, a unified platform is needed.
Having a seamless unified software program also allows for efficient and regular updates across the platform, in all cars using the design. This helps to create a buffer zone for new innovations, and a process for updating features quickly and thoroughly. The modern consumer market brings with it high customer expectations, and the demand for those to change quickly. Who can blame them- in a world of endless possibilities, people want the best, and they want it fast.
A Fully Integrated Automotive Experience
Along with customer expectations comes a demand for all digital devices to deliver similar results. Anyone buying a car today – no matter what class, no matter what size – expects the same thing from the car. This sort of demand denotes a need for a streamlined, unified software platform that can deliver consistency across multiple brands, regardless of size and price.
In this way, the historical purpose of a car is in effect being redefined. An automobile used to have a simple task- to get us from point A to point B in a safe and efficient manner. With our new digital age, this task holds true, but carries as well a need for cutting edge user experience, connection and comfort. As CARIAD puts it, this customer experience has to remain fresh, up to date, and consistently offer customers “wow” moments that truly surprise them. This is a software task, not hardware.
